With your generous support, Rhythm & Booms returns
to Warner Park on Saturday, July 3, 2010!
(Rain date: July 5th, 2010)
Rhythm & Booms is Madison, Wisconsin's premier Independence Day Celebration and fireworks display. As the "largest fireworks display in the Midwest", it easily surpasses other fireworks events in Chicago, Minneapolis and Milwaukee because of the length of the show (approximately 35 minutes), the number of shells fired (15,000) during the show, and the size of its annual budget. It is the largest single-day event in Wisconsin.
Founded in 1993 by Terry Kelly of Madison, who is President of Madison Fireworks Fund, the 501(c)(3) charitable organization which hosts Rhythm & Booms, the event has enjoyed enormous growth and has been ranked at or near the top of the community's favorite summer events. It is estimated that close to 300,000 people - primarily families - attend the annual Fourth of July extravaganza at Warner Park on Madison's north side, taking part in everything from fun and games for children of all ages including a decorated bicycle parade, 20-ride carnival, bingo tent, Oldies and Blues music stages, a baseball game, marching bands, skydivers, and Wisconsin Army National Guard and Wisconsin Air National Guard military demonstrations and F-16 fly-overs.
The fireworks begin at dusk and are choreographed to music, which is broadcast over WOLX-94.9FM. Spectators bring their boom boxes and radios to the park and tune in to enjoy the perfectly synchronized fireworks show without any sound delay.
Rhythm & Booms is a one-day event (there is a rain date), and is run almost entirely with the generous help of some 500 volunteers who assist with everything from the set-up of tables in the bingo tent, to looking after lost and found children (and pets!), flipping burgers and hotdogs, serving soda and beer, collecting parking fees and donations, to cleaning up the last bit of trash after the event.
Rhythm & Booms is funded entirely from corporate sponsorships and contributions, as well as private donations. In addition, many services are donated by local businesses. Proceeds from the event's vending activities, after expenses, benefit children's charities in the Madison area; some $427,000 has been given since 1993.
